Monkeying Around With The Zoomer Chimp
Zoomer Chimp tries (and succeeds in it’s own way) in mimicking a little real life chimp – though it’ll have a hard time eating a banana (can’t stomach it you see). But it IS capable of ‘going bananas’ mind you! I fact that’s one of 200 programmed voice commands it responds to.
Like a real pet it has to learn these commands from it’s owner though. Other commands it is capable of learning and responding to are : flip, stand, dance and talking. It can even wave it’s arms in the air like it just don’t care!
A handy quick reference card is supplied with the robot chimp explaining the different modes. Modes are accessed by pressing a button on the top of the head. The will eyes change color to show which mode it is set to. Like when set In “Guard Mode” the eyes will light up red and it’ll charge at anything it senses around it. Purple indicates that it is in voice command mode and will respond to specific phrases – refer to the reference card.
There is a ton fun to be had with this. For example kids can train it to follow them around (when in “Follow Me mode”). It “sees” the kids with it’s visual sensors in this mode. It will try to make it’s way around any obstacles it encounters and is surprisingly steady and nimble – thank the god of True Balance Technology for that. It can do some neat tricks as well. And it has dance moves!
In addition to the monkey noises it makes, kids can also teach the Zoomer Chimp robot new phrases or words. Zoomer Chimp will then say the words back in it’s own voice, with the lips actually moving. Kids can to unlock more phrases/commands as they play with the robot. So the chimp grows and learns with the kid – sort of like a real pet would.
Watch its eyes changing color to see what mood it is in. You can ask him what “mood” it’s in and it will show you how it honestly feels (unlike the wife heh).

What accessories comes with it?
A charging cable, instruction manual and quick reference guide is included with the Zoomer Chimp. That’s all you need really.
Does this thing run on the same batteries the Duracell bunny does?
No, silly. Everybody knows the Duracell bunny doesn’t really exist. Anyway, the Zoomer Chimp is powered by a LiPo battery pack (included) that is charged via connecting the (included) charging cable to an electrical outlet of your choice. You will probably need an adapter for plugging into a wall socket though. And a wall socket.
Won’t my kids quickly become bored with it?
Zoomer Chimp is designed in a smart way (manufacturer calls it Progressive Play) so that it “learns” new tricks. Ergo it will respond in new and different ways as kids play with it. Refer to the instruction manual and reference guide to see what kids can teach it.
With the little fellow being able to keep learning new stuff it will be quite a while before the Zoomer Chimp starts repeating itself in a boring way. This should also give kids a sense of being able to really train and teach it and make it their “pet” in the proper sense of the word.
Play, Monkey, Play!
Below is a short video of the Zoomer Chimp to give you a better idea of what the toy is like.
Monkey Business or Banana Republic?
So what can we say about this battery operated toy? Mostly only good things really. Very cool, smart and fun. It moves, “moods”, responds to you and follows you around. Zoomer Chimp dances, talks, flips and rolls. C’mon really how cool is that right? Kids’ll just flip out (or go ape…uhm) when they see this little guy.
The technology inside this toy is quite stunning actually. The sure-footed way the chimp moves around while standing upright is really amazing for something that’s just a children’s toy. Old school GI Joe’s will be crying in their boots when they see this thing!
