How To Assemble The Sports Center
Assembling the VTech Smart Shots Sports Center is not difficult and might take 10 to 15 minutes at the most. You only need a Phillips type screwdriver to tighten a few screws.
Start the assembly by inserting the scoreboard into the sports center. First you check the wires and then you insert the scoreboard. Tighten the two screws to prevent it from coming loose.
Next you put the VTech Smart Shots Sports Center into its base section. Snap the pieces together and tighten the four screws.
Now you can snap the soccer net into the back of the sports center. Insert the net for the basketball into the front.
Only two pieces remain. Put the character lever and the gears into its slots and you are done!
How To Install The Batteries
Install the new batteries when the switch is in the off position. The battery cover is located on the back of the scoreboard. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and remove the cover.
Insert three AA batteries in the right polarity configuration. Close the battery cover and screw it tight. Turn the sports center on to test if it works.
Please note that the VTech Smart Shots Sports Center has an automatic shut down feature. If no activity is done after one minute, the sports center goes into sleep mode. Press any of the buttons and the center turns on again. This helps to conserve battery life.
What activities does this play center offer?
The left side of the VTech Smart Shots Sports Center has three gears which giggle or play a short tune when turned. The LED screen is also activated.
The 3-2-1 GO page makes a whistling sound when flipped open. It says a few encouraging phrases and plays a short tune. The LED screen lights up.
The center of the VTech Smart Shots Sports Center has three important areas: the LED screen, the basketball hoop and the soccer net.
The LED screen lights up the scored points are counted from one up to ten when the basketball is thrown through the basketball net. Slam-dunk the basketball and the sports center rewards your child with cheering, praises, a song and a tune.
Many playful sounds are played when the soccer ball is kicked into the soccer net and the LED screen is also activated.
On the right side of the VTech Smart Shots Sports Center are more buttons:
- The triangle button teaches the triangle shape, plays delightful melodies and the LED screen displays a few animations.
- The square button teaches the square shape as well as the numbers from one to ten.
- The circle button teaches the circle shape, plays phrases and songs.
- The character lever with the funky basketball monkey makes fun sounds and plays a song when pushed.

Does it have an on/off switch?
The VTech Smart Shots Sports Center has an off/volume switch that is located to the right of the basketball hoop. The switch has three positions: off, low volume and high volume. Slide the switch to the low volume position to turn on the music, sounds and LED screen of the sports center.
Can the noises be muted or turned off?
The VTech Smart Shots Sports Center does not have a mute button, but it has both a low/high volume setting and an off position. You can turn off the sports center and your child can still kick or throw the balls into the soccer net or basketball hoop without the songs, words and noises.
What age range does the manufacturer recommend?
VTech recommends the Smart Shots Sports Center for children between 12 to 36 months old. Older children might find the basketball net too low and the sounds less than interesting.
How big is the the VTech Smart Shots Sports Center?
It is a little smaller than it looks in the pictures. The LED screen gives it a height of about 24 inches. The soccer net is about 16 inches deep while the base support piece gives it a width of about 22 inches. It is not a heavy toy: it weighs about 2 or 3 pounds.
Is the basketball net easily reachable?
Children between one and three do not have a problem with the height of the basketball net. It is about 13 to 14 inches from the floor. It is not high at all, it might even be too low to provide a challenge for children. The height of the basketball net cannot be adjusted.
The VTech Smart Shots Sports Center is enjoyed by most toddlers from 12 to 36 months. It provides a center of activity and entertainment inside the house if the weather outside is unpleasant or unsafe. Most children enjoy this sports center, but toddlers who are sporty by nature will play more often with it.
It is easy to assemble since the pieces snap together. You then simply secure the parts by tightening the included screws with your own screwdriver (you do own a Phillips screwdriver, right?). Remember to buy three AA alkaline batteries, insert these into the battery compartment and the sports center is good to go.
