The KidKraft Savannah Dollhouse is a big, multi-storied, multi-roomed dollhouse with a distinctive dash of sweet southern styling. Watch out for Scarlett O’Hara coming down the staircase with a gun! The 4 floors, 6 rooms and 2 balconies are easily accessible and the house has a very open, airy feel to it.
There is a big bedroom on the 3rd floor with adjoining balconies and a lovely old four poster bed. The other rooms are furnished with their own respective pieces of beautiful wooden furniture that comes included with the set. Setting up the KidKraft Savannah Dollhouse
The Savannah Dollhouse measures close to 33 x 13.5 x 51 inches and weighs just shy of 40 pounds. If possible, get someone to help you with the assembly. Even if it’s just to help sort the parts and hold a wall here and there while you work the screw driver (keep it still, dammit!). The set comes packed with the walls, furniture, hardware and manual inside the box. The furniture comes pre-assembled and are carefully wrapped.
Before you begin, try and sort the pieces first and cross-check with the manual that everything is there. The parts are conveniently numbered. Be careful not to pull some of the decorating wallpaper off the parts when removing these number stickers though (gently does it – show some manners man!).
If you have the right screwdriver handy (an electric screw driver works wonders as well) and follow the assembly steps diligently you should have it set up in anything between an hour and a half and two and a half hours. The first couple of steps takes the longest to complete (so don’t give up too soon!).
Wining And Dining – Southern Style
There is plenty for Southern Beaus and Belles to do at this beautiful mansion. The front sitting room is the perfect place for dolls to have afternoon tea and share in the local gossip. Then dolls can head up the center stairs to the dining room for a sumptuous Southern dinner. After saying goodnight to her guests, the hostess can retire to her big bedroom on the 3rd floor.
But alas! She just cannot get to sleep all alone in that big four poster bed. So she heads out onto the bedroom balcony and goes to sit on the swing. Gazing out into the night she wonders when her handsome husband will return from the battlefield. And just then the little heir to the family fortune starts crying from the top floor nursery…
There is plenty of furniture to arrange. The dining room table and chairs look particularly classy. Even the downstairs bathroom is more than fit for any snobby Southern Heiress. Children will have hours of fun playing with their dolls on this set. It is nice and big and many a youngster will actually be growing into the set before they grow out of it. Really young ones will appreciate a step stool of some kind, so they can reach the top floor more easily.

A Couple of Notes on Quality
Owing to the decent size of this dollhouse, chances are that children will be able to play with it for some years before growing out of it. The good design and decent overall quality of the dollhouse should ensure that this set will last for many years (unless Union soldiers ransack the plantation and burn the house down).
Although the frame is of solid wood the walls and floors are a bit thinner and the staircase is a plastic item. Do not over tighten the screws on the house when assembling it (i.e. don’t overdo things). Though the house is plenty sturdy once assembled, try not to have kids climb on top of it or things may start going South pretty fast.

Frankly my Dear …
The KidKraft Savannah Dollhouse is a stunning four floor, six room, daydream of a dollhouse. It is true class through and through and will be the proud centerpiece of any little girls room. The delightful, detailed wallpapers, elegantly figured wooden frame, railings and roof rounds out the smooth, Southern look. The fabulous furniture pieces are simply to die for.
The only thing that’s missing from this dollhouse are the built-in sounds and lights that some other dollhouses have. I’ll just follow Clark Gable’s lead and say “frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn,” since it hardly detracts from the overall value and charm of this big, beautiful abode for Beaus and Belles.
