Putting Up the Kidkraft Contemporary Deluxe Townhouse
First make sure you have a reasonably large space to set up in – the dollhouse is a large item with rough dimensions of 17 x 19 x 24 inches (when folded open). It weighs close to 24 pounds. Two persons will be able to carry it around – so no absolute need to necessarily set it up where it will eventually go.
Set aside about 2-3 hours to put this dollhouse together. It helps if you have help (of the adult kind) and the ubiquitous Phillips head screwdriver. You may need an Allen wrench to tighten one or two things as well. Most of the holes have been pre-drilled at the factory.
The included instructions are not too hard to follow – but getting the walls set up in the right place sometimes takes a bit of head scratching (don’t use the screwdriver for this). The included screws and bolts are color coded. So that already helps a bit.
Getting funky with the KidKraft Contemporary Deluxe Townhouse Dollhouse
This dollhouse simply looks ready to play. The overall design is definitely not too girly – but most definitely very cool. Its just the outside walls that has pink colors in them, the inside of the dollhouse if very modern and stylish. Even boys won’t be able to resist this dollhouse (but their GI Joe’s would probably rather die with their boots on than be seen at a tea party with Barbie!)
There are plenty of furniture to decorate the house with and move around the rooms. The detailed backgrounds on the walls give good depth and character to the rooms – kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, sitting room, office etc all are easily recognizable. There are various paintings, a fireplace and also details on the outside walls.
The dollhouse is not that tall though really. More than one kid can play simultaneously – quite enough room for a sibling or friends to join in the fun.
Notes and Tips
Ages from 36 months – 8 years will be able to enjoy the Kidkraft Contemporary Deluxe dollhouse to the full. The frame and walls are wood based and should withstand years of play. Some people have had bad luck with pre-drilled holes having cracked the wood, so that can be a possible quality issue.
The dollhouse is big – needs enough room to open for play, though it folds in on itself very neatly. Everything from the house itself to the furniture pieces are well made and well finished in a bright range of colors. Feel free to add additional furniture as desired (like a sleeper couch for Ken to crash on when he and Barbie had a row).
Try and put the dollhouse where the room light hits it best – it can be a little dark in the middle rooms if more than child is playing in front of the dollhouse and blocking the light. It does not come with dolls but any medium sized doll or figurine should feel at home here.
Deluxe Townhouse in Action
The KidKraft Contemporary Deluxe Townhouse Dollhouse has a really modern and interesting layout with a stylish and detailed room design. It comes with cute (a lot of them wooden) furniture.
Primarily assembled from wooden parts, this house is well made, sturdy (unless you really put it together all crooked) and should last a good long time.
It is a really cool, funky and fun dollhouse that is a bit of a departure from more traditional pink and pretty dollhouses. A perfect buy also if your girl (or girls) isn’t too girlie i.e. crazy about pink (the color – not the artist). A very good buy.
